New member of the EUFORGEN Secretariat

Published: 2/03/2020

We are pleased to announce that Anna-Maria Farsakoglou has today joined the EUFORGEN Secretariat to provide scientific and technical support to the Programme and associated projects on forest genetic resources.

“My aim is to make sure that the voice of the scientists is conveyed into practice and that the voice of the practitioners is transferred to the scientific community”, Anna-Maria said.

Originally from Greece, Anna Maria is a forest geneticist dedicated to the conservation of forest genetic resources. She is currently a PhD candidate at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH), where she explores the conservation of ecologically and economically important European forest tree species using genomic approaches. Her interest began during her undergraduate studies, where she was introduced to the forest genetics world at the Laboratory of Forest Genetics and Tree Breeding at AUTH. The next step was a Master in Quantitative Genetics and Genome Analysis at the University of Edinburgh.

Being a nature enthusiast and an ambitious researcher, she has participated in several European efforts, such as the GenTree project on “Optimizing the management and sustainable use of forest genetic resources in Europe”.

Her training and experience are ideally suited to strengthen the Secretariat.

Welcome, Anna-Maria!
