During the second meeting of the EUFORGEN working group on genetic conservation strategies, held in Casale Monferrato, Italy, 14-16 February 2012, most of the time was devoted to discuss further development of conservation strategies. Based on the analysis of the compiled material, the group formulated a list of recommendations for genetic conservation. A general principle on how to select core networks among the conservation units was also established.
