The purpose of the workshop was to review the progress made by European countries in documenting their genetic conservation units of forest trees since the first workshop which had been held in 2007 as part of the EUFGIS project (Establishment of a European Information System on Forest Genetic Resources, 2007-2011). The workshop also discussed further development of the EUFGIS Portal which is now maintained by EUFORGEN. Furthermore, an expert consultation was carried out during the workshop to explore possibilities and ways to link various FGR inventories and databases in Europe. The results will be used by the new FORGER project (Towards the Sustainable Management of Forest Genetic Resources in Europe, 2012-2015) which is supported by the European Commission (FP7-KBBE).
