On April 4, 2025, the University of Zurich will host the Beech Genomes for the Future workshop, addressing the future of European beech in the face of climate change.

Organised by Sofia van Moorsel, Domitille Coq-Etchegaray, Toja Guerra, and Meredith Schuman, the event will explore the impact of increasing temperatures and drought on beech populations.

The 2018 drought and future climate models predict severe threats to beech growth in Europe. However, some beech trees show resilience, and understanding the genetic basis for this tolerance could help ensure the species' future. This workshop will bring together researchers to share insights on genomics, drought resistance, and conservation strategies for beech forests.
