Genetic aspects in production and use of forest reproductive material

Collecting scientific evidence to support the development of guidelines and decision support tools

This working group is building upon the work of the expert group that published 'Use and transfer of forest reproductive material (FRM) in Europe in the context of climate change' in 2015. The group is also reviewing literature and the results of the Forest Management network that was active during Phase III.

The focus of the working group is on forest management systems, looking at two closely related areas:

The production of FRM. More specifically:

  1. Documenting the production chain of FRM and examining how genetic aspects are affected in collection/production/deployment of FRM, taking into account how climate change may affect seed production.
  2. Making recommendations on how to improve existing schemes for tracking and recording FRM used.

And the use of FRM are working specifically on:

  1. Defining alternative choices of regeneration approaches.
  2. Analysing establishment techniques and use of FRM.

The third meeting of the working group took place the 21-23 November 2017 in Rome, Italy.
