EUFORGEN Steering Committee meeting in December rounds off a busy 2023
The EUFORGEN Steering Committee held the 19th EUFORGEN meeting online from 13-15 December. The virtual event focussed on reporting on EUFORGEN activities in 2023 and the preparation of EUFORGEN phase VII, which will begin in 2025.
Proposed Strategic Objectives for Phase VII were elaborated over several months in advance of the meeting by a nominated Task Force of National Coordinators, working with the EUFORGEN Secretariat, based on a scoping exercise carried out at the 18th Steering Committee meeting held in Barcelona in May 2023. The Strategic Objectives are designed to be in line with the key commitments and recommendations of the Forest Genetic Resources Strategy for Europe (2021) and its implementation plan.
28 countries are currently members of EUFORGEN with 24 National Coordinators attending the online meeting. The next full EUFORGEN Steering Committee will take place in person in Bergen, Norway in April 2024.
